Latest News from MRA: GWAS & SEAS – Extension for the Month of May 2021

The Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA) released a communique on 26 May 2021 to set out the eligibility criteria for the payment of the Government Wage Assistance Scheme (GWAS) and the Self-Employed Assistance Scheme (SEAS) for the month of May 2021.

Financial assistance for full month (GWAS & SEAS)

Financial assistance for half month (GWAS)

  •  Tourism Sector

Employers and self-employed individuals working in this sector in Mauritius and Rodrigues

  • Sectors other than tourism sector:

1.       Fitness centres and Professional Sports;

2.       Horse racing bookmakers (outlets), casinos and gaming houses;

3.      Leisure parks, amusement centres, including aquariums;

4.      Multi-purpose halls, including wedding halls, theatres and cinema halls;

5.      Nightclubs licensed by the Tourism Authority, and bars;

6.      Self-employed individuals who are –

  • Stallholders in markets that remained closed;

  • Haberdashers operating in a market;

  • Hawkers not allowed to operate;

  • Artists

  • Operators in the red zones* and who are not allowed to operate:

1.  Employers having their principal place of business in a red zone;

2.  Self-employed individuals residing in red zones or having their business activity within a red zone.

  • Operators in the Gaming Sector:
  • Horse Racing Organisers;

  • Bookmakers conducting fixed odds bets on horse racing through remote communication;

  • Totalizator operators of horse racing by remote communication.

*Red zones: Rivière des Anguilles, Batimarais, St Aubin, Tyack, Benares, Camp Diable and Bonne Terre

Applications for GWAS and SEAS for the month of May 2021

Employers who are eligible for GWAS are required to submit a fresh application.

Self-employed individuals who operate in red zone areas and who are eligible to apply for the SEAS are required to submit a fresh application through the MRA website www.mra.mu. Other eligible self-employed individuals are not required to submit fresh applications.
